Hardwood Floors Help to Reduce Mess
Hardwood floors are far easier to clean than carpets. Although some of the same problems can occur to wood floors as with carpet, like staining, or pet mess leaking through, it is a lot easier to clean that it is in carpeting. Most people say that they prefer carpeting because it keeps the house warmer, and this may be true. However, they usually change their tune once something is spilled on the carpet, or they find that they constantly have to vacuum to keep all the lint, dust and dirt from collecting in the long fibers. This is not a problem that people with hardwood flooring have. If hardwood flooring is something being considered in a home, here are some of the rooms it works best and why.
Dining Rooms and Other Eating Spaces
When kids eat, they are usually messy. They spill food and drinks, feed the dog under the table, and wear down the carpeting from their chair legs, digging in ruts. Clean up is a lot easier if the dining area has hardwood flooring. Everything can be wiped clean or swept and that is the end of the mess. There is nothing more to do. It is, all around, easier to deal with to keep a clean home environment.
High Traffic Areas
If there are children or even adults living in the home that like to play outside in the dirt, mud and grass, this can easily be brought inside. To eliminate staining and for an easier clean-up, hardwood floors will make cleaning mud and other dirty things out of high traffic areas all the more simple.
Laundry Areas
If the laundry area is the catchall for all the dirty laundry in the home as it is for most people, then hardwood floors can greatly benefit that room. In a carpeted laundry area, there is always a worry that the stains from clothing and other items can rub into the carpet. Smells from damp items are also a concern with carpets as well. If there is hardwood in the laundry area, there is never a worry about these stains and smells, because the wood floors are not going to absorb a smell.
Kitchens
Cleaning up in a kitchen would be easier if the floors were hardwood. Most homes have tile or vinyl flooring that can oftentimes be unsightly to look at. Food items will be easier to pick up and pet food will be easier to clean. Another benefit to wood flooring in a kitchen is that there is never a worry as to whether the floor matches the curtains or countertops, because wood goes well with everything.
